Hello
I am Helen of Helen's Hounds Dog Training. I have been a dog owner, fosterer, volunteer in the canine community for 30 years, read on below for more of my story.
My Story
I have lost count of the amount of dogs that have been through my house, it might sound a little odd but I have had many fostered dogs come through, some for one day right through to one who is still with me now 9 years on. Greyhounds from the track, RSPCA fosters, dog warden collections when they had run out of kennel space etc and in one case I was called to give evidence in an RSPCA case in court.
I have owned nine dogs, four of which are with me now (3 rescue and 1 from a breeder). Many have come in with behavioural issues and all have needed some kind of training and without realising my knowledge base and experience had started. When I decided to go for a career change just over three years ago it had to be dogs. I made the decision not to do behaviour work, I have seen enough to understand what is needed but I really believe a behaviourist should have a degree in Animal Psychology. Therefore I decided to become a dog trainer.

The dog training industry is an odd one as it is not regulated, however I decided very early on I was going to be a force free trainer and get myself accredited. I ended up with a few accreditations (please feel free to cross reference with the relevant websites) including with :
The Institute of Modern Dog Training (IMDT)
Association of Pet Dog Training (APDT)
Animal Behaviour and Training Counctil (ABTC)
Canine Hoopers World (CHW)
and recently
UK Sniffer Dogs (scentwork)

I am fully insured, Canine First Aid trained (which I renew every 3 years) and DBS checked. All of which I am happy to provide documents of if asked.

If you would like to get in contact I am always happy to talk and listen to what is going on with you and your puppy/dog and help you whether it's puppies or for your older dogs.
